With both a rich historical heritage and quality, Buda, Texas combines the best of the past, present, and future! Main Street has retained its “old-time” look and Buda is well known for its antique downtown shopping in the original buildings. Northern Hays County & specifically the Buda area have experienced record business & population growth the past several years. This growth is being guided to preserve the quality of life that is enjoyed & cherished in Buda.

The City of Buda is located on Interstate Highway 35 – seventeen miles south of downtown Austin in northeastern Hays County. The city was formally established on April 1, 1881, when Cornelia Trimble donated land for a town site at an International-Great Northern Railroad depot there.  Originally part of the Mexican land grant to Stephen B. von Eggleston, Phillip J. Allen settled the area in 1846.  In 1929 its population was estimated at 600, but by 1933 it fell to 300.

Buda was incorporated in 1948, and in 1967, Buda, Kyle, and formed the Hays Consolidated Independent School District.  Wimberley established it's own district in 1986.

In the mid-1980s, with the growth of Austin, Buda's population approached pre-depression levels.  Also by the mid-1980s, Buda attracted a cement plant and some craft industry, but the community was still primarily rural and residential.

Today Buda is a young and growing city with a median age of 33 years old, a population of 10,621 and an average household income of $101,500.
